CRéACTIFS!
Creativity is a major activity in our human society. It is also the first step towards innovation.
In today’s digital world, creativity is within reach of most students, from high school to university, from art schools to engineering faculties, thanks to widely available open software and hardware.
… Three good reasons to teach digital art technologies to our students at UMONS!
Bachelor level
At the Bachelor level, our teaching approach is based on projects, introduced by hands-on workshops:
- Creactions — Introduction to Digital Art Technology, with demos; First steps in PureData and Processing; Individual project
- Connections – Programming the Arduino; Connecting it to PureData and Processing; Using OSC messages; Working with several computers; Collective project
- Programmactions – Introduction to OpenFrameworks; Using libraries; Compiling on iOS; Designing interaction; Advanced project
All workshops are given in French, and organized during evenings.
They are also open to students of the Pôle Hainuyer (which includes technical schools and art schools in the area of Mons).
The introductory level course (Creactions) is additionally open to secondary school students.
Master Level
At the Master level, various disciplines of digital art technology are taught in several curricula at UMONS, some of them in English:
- Electrical Engineering – specialism in Multimedia and Telecommunications (MA1, MA2)
- Computer Engineering – specialism in Information Systems Management (MA1, MA2)
- Computer Science (MA1, MA2)
- Mechanical Engineering – specialism in Control Systems (MA1, MA2)
Students have access to the NUMEDIART Lab, in which researchers develop research projects, in collaboration with artists and creative companies.
In the near future, they will also benefit from the UMONS FabLab, which will open at Q2 2012.
